Refill Bean bags

Refill Bean Bags with Quality Polystyrene or Foam for Safe and Comfortable Chairs

Although called "bean" bags the filling is not really beans but soft, cushiony irregularly shaped polystyrene beads. For the most comfortable seating, refill bean bags with quality material. The smaller the size of the filler particles are the better, allowing beanbags to retain their shape and give support.

Not so good choice

Cheap fillers are made with larger, chunkier pieces that roll to the bottom of the chair and turn it into a formless blob. If recycled/regrind styrene is too porous and crumbly or if foreign materials (such as cardboard or fabric) are added, the bean bag will be uncomfortable.

Refresh or refill?

After a lot of use - with sitting, jumping and bouncing – beanbag furniture will compress. It may not need to be completely refilled however - just add some extra for more volume.

When it's time for a complete change, refill with virgin bead styrofoam that is clean, new and unused. Make sure fire retardant products are used for safety. Buy refills in large 11 or 12 cubic feet bags to fill an empty shell or in small quantities for refreshing.

Other options

Popular foof chairs are softer than traditional bean bags because they are filled with shredded bits of foam. When they lose their form toss in the air with a rolling motion until they are poofed up to your satisfaction.
